Kinesio Taping courses run in association with Kinesio UK are approved by the International Kinesio Taping Association, founded by Dr Kenzo Kase. They are taught by experienced Certified Kinesio Taping Instructors.

The course is open to medical practiitoners including Physiotherapists, Chiropractors, Osteopaths, OT's, Sports Massage Therapists and other medical professionals with a good background of human anatomy. This module aims to enable you, as an experienced practitioner in the field of musculoskeletal practice, (general practitioner, physiotherapist and nurse) to extend your scope of practice to include the use of injection therapy. Living Anatomy - Muscle Review Day for Massage Practitioners

This one-day course focuses on learning / reviewing muscles in an applied ‘hands on’ way. It is open to all qualified massage practitioners and aromatherapists, whatever your prior knowledge of muscles.

The aim is to provide you with understanding and experience which you can use to enhance your massage practice - by being able to identify muscles by touch (palpation), understand their actions in a practical way, and give clients effective stretching ‘homework’.

This will not be a ‘dry’ course of academic information, but an interesting, active day using a 3D model with muscles, muscle cut-outs, a range of pictures and charts, and considerable hands-on identification of muscles and tensions within them.

The course begins with a review of the main bones and joints to lay the groundwork for making sense of how the muscles work on them. We’ll kook at the logic of muscle shapes and actions, and identify thirty main muscles / muscle groups (including their attachments and their actions). This two-day seminar will examine the four basic styles of performance inherent in all athletic disciplines. Utilising structural integration and myofascial therapy theories and techniques that are appropriate for each style of performance, participants will focus on developing training and event protocols for endurance, sprint, power, and multi-skilled athletes. Presentations on performance mechanics, somatotypes, and the balancing of the autonomic nervous system will highlight a comprehensive study of advanced therapies for the athletic performer.

Day One – Foundations The first day of the seminar will present the primary concepts of the physical and psychological demands of training and performance for all athletes. A breakdown of somatotypes and their inherent strengths and challenges will be used to discuss the development of bodywork protocols for the endurance, sprint, power and multi-skilled athlete. Myofascial and structural techniques for the leg, pelvis and back will be presented for both training and performance cycles.

Day Two – Advanced Methods The second day of the seminar will present advanced strategies for developing protocols that are both sport-specific and performance-level based. Techniques for working with intrinsic myofascial tissues of the axial and appendicular regions and strategies to balance the autonomic nervous system will be taught. This course examines the spine as a tensegrity truss – how the bones float within the myofascial balance. An integral part of structure we all know the agonising effects of incorrect mechanics when it doesn’t work and often fail to appreciate the wonderfully adaptive job it does when the vertebrae are allowed to float.

We look at the actions available at each of the sections (lumbar, theoretic and cervical) of the spine and how they may lead to certain dysfunctional patterns. By putting the spine into context with the surrounding structures we can better understand the reasons for its limitations and its wondrous abilities. Darien has been using his forearms and elbows for over two decades (without which he would have been unable to sustain his career). This 2 days practical workshop will cover the mechanics of SIJ and the challenging assessment methods together with a protocol of treatment and rehabilitation methods including MET, ART and Functional Rehabilitation

With the minimum level of qualification now required to work in sport at Level 4, we have developed a 'top-up' Diploma course for holders of Level 4 and 5 Sports Massage and BTEC Level 4 or 5 Sport & Remedial Massage qualifications. This course has been designed to fill in gaps from your previous training, to the Level 5 Diploma syllabus and to meet the CNHC Sports Therapy register requirements. It has not been designed as a stand-alone course.

This course meets the criteria for registering as a Sports Therapist with the CNHC, the only UK Regulator of Sports Therapy.

We do not accept qualifications from distance learning providers such as Stonebridge, BSY, SNHS etc. We will also need to see evidence of an A&P qualification at Level 3. If you do not hold an A&P qualification, this will be available at an additional cost of £199.00, done via distance learning.

b) Evidence of at least 200 hours of clinical practice with 2 years postgraduate experience. (This can be evidenced by CV, references etc). This can be clinic or sports club based experience.

c) Completed portfolio of course work relating to your qualification (if this is not available, you will have to complete additional home study)

d) Evidence of annual CPD credits in relevent field, ie soft tissue, exercise etc.

e) Evidence of annual Liability Insurance, covering a minimum of 2 years.

We would recommend you study Hands On Sports Therapy, by Keith Ward, as this covers most of the subjects.

Due to the nature of this fast track course, you will need previous competency in soft tissue therapy, which would exceed basic massage techniques. You will need to be able to use clinical judgement in identifying, treating and giving comprehensive aftercare for soft tissue injuries. There will be a final practical and written assessment at the end of each programme.

Walking is one of the most common daily functions, but one of the least understood biomechanically.

In this workshop we will
1.Analyse the mechanics of efficient gait, looking at the chain of events from feet to the spine and into the shoulders
2.We will see how gravity works in concert with the joints and thereby the fascial and myofascial tissue to improve proprioceptive communication, muscle firing and collagenous recoil

By the end of the workshop you will understand

■The role of the mechanoreceptors in myofascia
■The sequence of events in the joints in normal gait
■How the Anatomy Trains assist efficiency of walking

The head is often seen as the last site of compensation as it corrects for any alterations from below. While holding and movement patterns in the jaw can also cause pain and dysfunction downstream. The head is often approached as a single unit by beginning massage students. However, it is really composed of 3 anatomical areas all of which provide the architecture upon which the jaw, neck and facial musculature organise themselves around. This workshop provides a review of the anatomy of the anterior neck, face & jaw, cranium and oral cavity; plus detailed palpation and touch skills to balance the jaw (bite & chewing) and anterior neck (hyoid sling & upper cervicals).

This course helps you confidently find and balance:
■The sub-occipital muscles
■The laminar groove and deep cervical muscles

Achieving balance here can be essential for long lasting results in any therapy. This course sheds light on the pelvis – the keystone of human architecture – by organising the 20 or so muscles of the pelvis into three fans. Get specific with sensitivity.

Objectives

Dissection is an amazing process which allows us to fully understand the relationships that we touch every day in our clinical work. We will study and challenge the idea of origin and insertion, movement and function. What is the make-up of deep fascia, how does it behave and change by touch? We will drop into the abdominal layers to examine the fascia, explore the truth behind core stability and explode some myths surrounding muscles and their function.
Whilst engaging in hands-on dissection, you will develop a different, holistic and connected view of the body as a functioning unit.

Julian Baker has been running connective tissue dissections at Imperial College School of Medicine and St George’s School of Medicine for over five years. Walking is one of the most common daily functions, but one of the least understood biomechanically.

In this workshop we will

2.We will see how gravity works in concert with the joints and thereby the fascial and myofascial tissue to improve proprioceptive communication, muscle firing and collagenous recoil.

Arches and the Legs

Underpinning all of our structure is the foot’s interaction with the ground, imbalances here clearly have consequences further up the body. Effective arch balance can be essential for easy and graceful walking, pelvic stability, low back efficiency and even head and neck support. The feet and legs are literally the foundation for the rest of our structure and this workshop will analyse the bones of the feet and how they conspire to help or hinder the arches. We will look at the forces coming from the leg muscles and create strategies to help maintain better mechanics by dealing with myofascial restrictions and imbalances.
1.This course focuses on good foot and leg support through: the 3 (or 4) arches of the foot, how they act in walking and standing. and
2.The balance of support the arches receive from the long muscles of the calf, and
3.Unwinding rotational compensations in the foot, the tibia-fibula complex and the knee

The Knee and Thigh

A complicated hinge in the middle of two long levers is perhaps not the best of designs – but this ‘elbow designed by committee’ is an excellent work of engineering. The knee joint mediates forces coming down form the hip and up from the foot and still allows a wide dance of movement in all but the frontal plane.

Objectives
1.How to differentiate your analysis of the foot and legs from the rest of the mechanical chain, giving an accurate reading of their skeletal relationships
2.How to assess and then provide good foot and leg support through the three (or four) arches of the foot

Walking is one of the most common daily functions, but one of the least understood biomechanically.

In order to understand anatomy the therapist must first understand function. In this workshop we will analyse the mechanics of efficient gait, looking at the chain of events from the feet to the spine and into the shoulders. We will see how gravity works in concert with the joints and thereby the fascial and myofascial tissue to improve proprioceptive communication, muscle firing and collagenous recoil. You will come away with the tools to investigate, analyse and intervene in non-pathological walking and then learn how to build a personalised exercise or stretch program to affect and improve client’ walking and how to transfer this knowledge to running.

The neck is a remarkable feat of biomechanical engineering, giving a combination of wide range of movement but maintaining a structural strength. It is often seen as the last site of compensation as it corrects for any alteration from below allowing the eyes and ears to orient to the horizon. Patterns can of course work their way in the other direction and particularly from the jaw and its many possible patterns of movement and holding. This course will focus on key areas of the neck and jaw complex to allow you to build successful strategies to ease these potential problem areas alleviating the issues working in both directions and setting the body up for a longer lasting change.

A rare opportunity to fully dissect the human form.
Dissection is an amazing process which allows us to fully understand the relationships that we touch every day in our clinical work. We will explore the skin, superficial fascia and deep fascia to reveal the deeper layers surrounding the muscles. Whilst engaging in hands-on dissection, you will develop a different, holistic and connected view of the body as a functioning unit.
This weekend we will explore the viscera and their fascia, spinal tissue and the tissues surrounding spinal discs. We will also look at cranial fascia and the brain, delving into deep spinal muscular structures as well as the remaining deep pelvic layer including psoas.
Respiratory tissues will also be examined and dissected and again the connective elements will play a big part in considering function of the breath.

The course will focus on functions and movement. The layers will be examined and explored and the relationships between them studied. Course notes, diagrams, functional explanations and examples will be provided, allowing you to redefine your understanding of your own therapy and why it works.

Julian Baker has been running connective tissue dissections at Imperial College School of Medicine and St George’s School of Medicine for over five years. He has worked closely with Gil Hedley Ph.D, assisting him in his intensive six day integral anatomy workshops. This course examines the spine as a tensegrity truss – how the bones float within the myofascial balance. An integral part of structure we all know the agonizing effects of incorrect mechanics when it doesn’t work and often fail to appreciate the wonderfully adaptive job it does when the vertebrae are allowed to ‘float’.

We will look at the actions available at each of the sections (lumbar, thoracic and cervical) of the spine and how they may lead to certain dysfunctional patterns. By putting the spine into context with the surrounding structures we can better understand the reasons for its limitations and its wondrous abilities. Once we explain the logic pattern the soft-tissue patterns that surround the spine then through the assessment and learning our techniques for freeing and balancing them you will be able to address:

Anterior and posterior curvatures – lordosis and kyphosis,

Arches and the Legs

Underpinning all of our structure is the foot’s interaction with the ground, imbalances here clearly have consequences further up the body. Effective arch balance can be essential for easy and graceful walking, pelvic stability, low back efficiency and even head and neck support. The feet and legs are literally the foundation for the rest of our structure and this workshop will analyse the bones of the feet and how they conspire to help or hinder the arches. We will look at the forces coming from the leg muscles and create strategies to help maintain better mechanics by dealing with myofascial restrictions and imbalances
1.This course focus on good foot and leg support through: the 3 (or 4) arches of the foot, how they act in walking and standing, and
2.The balance of support the arches receive from the long muscles of the calf, and
3.Unwinding rotational compensations in the foot, the tibia-fibula complex and the knee

The Knee and Thigh

A complicated hinge in the middle of two long levers is perhaps not the best of designs – but this ‘elbow designed by committee’ is an excellent work of engineering. The knee joint mediates forces coming down from the hip and up from the foot and still allows a wide range of movement in all but the frontal plane.

Objectives
1.How to differentiate your analysis of the foot and legs from the rest of the mechanical chain, giving an accurate reading of their skeletal relationships
2.How to assess and then provide good foot and leg support through the three (or four) arches of the foot
3.How the arches act in walking and standing and their relationship to the pelvis and the AT lines
4.How to balance the support the arches receive from the long muscles of the calf
5.Effective strategies to unwind rotational compensations in the foot, the tibia-fibula complex and the knee.
6.Learn how the structures of the knee and thigh co-operate to achieve this and learn how to recognise some of the structural dysfunctions that can occur
