Whether you are already in business, thinking about it or thinking about giving it up, come along to this great workshop. Its been in the melting pot for some time and is essential for building a good business with a happy therapist at the heart of it.
We can approach business planning from our left brain (necessary for all the admin systems, accounting, legal issues, insurance etc) but its not often our right brain gets a chance to speak (creativity, passion, ideas etc). We also don’t give much time to exploring our values, beliefs and interests to make sure that the business we run or want to run, doesn’t end up like the situation we want to avoid.
We work with so many therapists that are scared to go into Independent Practice and actually get more scared when they look at whats needed (left brain). Yes, look before you leap, but ensure you know what your passion is. Ideally, you need to act in accordance with your passion, skills and uniqueness alongside good left brain planning and you won’t go wrong.
So this workshop helps you get very clear on the end result you want, understand your values, interests, passions and and natural strengths, to make sure you move towards this, not just away from something else! It will help you develop resilience and awareness to ensure you can sustain the passion that keeps a business going.
It will combine techniques to access the right brain (creative activities, visualistion etc) aswell as more left brain coaching techniques. It will kicks start your businness in a way which have results far beyond the day.
You have little to lose by coming along and much to gain:) |

The Foundation MPS
Fundamentals in Movement and Performance Screening and Training
The Foundation MPS is a unique and simple screening process that evaluates fundamental movement in individuals of all ages and abilities. It provides a quick and effective method to find areas of uncontrolled movement or weak links
Course Outline
The Foundation MPS provides a quick and effective screen to find areas of uncontrolled movement and weak links in functional performance. Using 10 functional tests (5 low threshold & 5 high threshold) we can identify increased risk of injury and potential performance deficits.
The course will outline the latest categorisation system for core stability and expel some of the myths surrounding the area, as well as identifying gaps that currently exist in screening & training methodologies. It will provide the rationale behind The Foundation MPS tests and provide strategies that can be applied once uncontrolled movement has been found.
It provides a quick and effective method to find areas of uncontrolled movement This system of screening does not stop at just finding issues of a ‘weak core’. It identifies:
* if there is a problem of low threshold motor control within the core
* if there is a problem of high threshold core strength
* the site of the problem (e.g. hip, low back, upper back, shoulder)
* the direction of uncontrolled movement at that site (e.g. flexion, extension, rotation)
Audience
The courses is suitable for sports, exercise and medical professionals including:
* Physiotherapists, Osteopaths, Chiropractors and other medical professionals
* Sports Therapists & rehabilitation professionals
* Personal Trainers and Fitness Instructors
* Exercise and Sports Scientists / Physiologists
* Sports Coaches and Managers
* Occupational Health Workers
* Performing Artists
Participants MUST be able to demonstrate that the course material is within their scope of practice and that they have appropriate professional liability insurance to cover them for their attendance on the course and their course content
Good knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology is strongly recommended for these courses.
Key Features
* Identification of the site direction and threshold of uncontrolled movement
* Presentation of 5 x low threshold tests that identify the site and direction of uncontrolled movement
* Presentation of 5 x high threshold tests that identify the site and direction of uncontrolled movement
* Screening for movement and performance deficiencies
* Outline of different muscle stability and mobility roles
* Teaches the difference between low and high threshold recruitment and development of strategies to test for low and high threshold problems
* Examination of the relationship between restriction and compensation
* Presentation of the online system screening tool and profile
* Presentation of basic principles of low and high threshold retraining of uncontrolled movement
* Implementation and application of these strategies of retraining control of ‘high risk’ weak links
Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course the student should be able to:
* Apply 10 movement and performance screening tests to assess for low threshold and high threshold function
* Understand the difference between low threshold and high threshold recruitment dysfunction
* Use a scoring and profile system to compare, or re-evaluate the individual/team
* Understand and apply strategies for retraining the low threshold uncontrolled movement (weak links)
* Understand and apply strategies for retraining the high threshold uncontrolled movement (weak links)
* Design and implement a specific retraining programme for the weak links identified by the screening process

MOT
Movement Optimisation Training and Programme Design
Tutor: Mark Comerford
This course will enable you to develop the design and implementation of specific retraining programmes, based on an individual’s uncontrolled movement, to increase performance and decrease the risk of injury.
Course Outline
The focus of this course is the development and implementation of individual retraining programmes, based on an individual’s profile of uncontrolled movement. Priorities for retraining are explored in terms of low and high threshold, and integration into function is discussed and demonstrated.
Principles of low threshold correction and functional control within core stability training are illustrated and the application of low threshold training is applied to the control of direction specific movement, and to through-range motion. The principles of high threshold correction and core strengthening within core stability training are explored and applied to the control of specific sites and directions of uncontrolled movement. Training is progressed towards functional tasks/activities.
The development and implementation of specific core stability training programmes to integrate and prioritise low and high threshold retraining is discussed and demonstrated.

Dry Needling is a cost effective and efficient technique for the treatment of myofascial pain and dysfunction. The approach is based on Western anatomical and neurophysiological principles and should not be confused with the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) technique of acupuncture.
Physicians Travell and Simons defined a myofascial trigger point as a "Hyper-irritable spot in a skeletal muscle." The spot is painful on compression and can give rise to characteristic referred pain, referred tenderness, twitch release, motor dysfunction and autonomic phenomena. Myofascial trigger points (MTrPs) are commonly seen in both acute and chronic pain conditions.
Over the years it has been shown that it is possible to deactivate MTrPs by injecting them (or needling them with an acupuncture needle), the inference drawn from this being that the pain relief obtained is not dependent on the specific properties that the substance may contain but rather on the stimulation of the needle used for the injection itself or the acupuncture penetration.
Dry Needling may mechanically disrupt the integrity of the dysfunctional end plates within the myofascial trigger area - resulting in mechanical and physiological resolution of the MTrPs.
A fascinating new study by Jay Shah shows biochemical changes in the TrP following twitch elicitation. This was done by real time blood micro-sampling of the TrP as it was needled.
Today many Medical doctors, Physiotherapists, Chiropractors, Osteopaths, Nurses, Sports Therapists and Acupuncturists are using Dry Needling effectively and extensively within their practices for the treatment of Myofascial Pain & Dysfunction and for MTrPs.
Course booking pre-requisites: Professional scope of practice and professional indemnity insurance to train and practice dry needling on completion of the course.

One short course… long lasting results for you!
Set your anatomy knowledge free! Thomas Myers’ Anatomy Trains® weekend intensives are holistic, fun and very useful. Completely transform your view of myofascial anatomy and expand your ability to assess your clients’.
The Anatomy Trains concept moves beyond mechanical “cause and affect” actions of muscles to the integrative relational connections of real-life functional movement. This is a revolutionary map for analyzing soft-tissue patterns, and developing strategies for unwinding these patterns via fascial and myofascial work.
This course helps you:
• Gain access to effective treatment strategies for resolving postural distortions, which may occur some distance from the site of pain or limitation
• Enable you to make distinct changes in your clients’ structure in a few short moves
Course Objectives:
• Understand basic properties and connected nature of fascia, and tensegrity applied to fascia and human movement.
• A succinct and relevant introduction to geometry/character of the connective tissue, and the topology of fascial planes
• Be able to identify and trace the 6 major and 6 supplemental fascial meridians along which movement, tension, and postural distortion travel
• Apply knowledge to construct a bodywork session appropriate for the specific pattern of each client
• This course also serves as a prerequisite for entry in the KMI 500-hour Certification Training.
________________________________________
BodyReading is an innovative method of analysing posture. Of particular interest to all styles of practitioner who deal with postural realignment (Massage Therapist, Pilates teacher, Physiotherapist, Osteopath etc), the workshop presents holistic strategies for resolving strain patterns, and finding the “structural keys” to create longer lasting effective work. The more you can see the more efficient your work will become.
The ability to visually assess your clients’ posture and patterns of compensation is a time-saving skill that focuses your work. Every symptom if part of a larger pattern. Learn to read these larger patterns in terms of where the skeleton is in space, and how the soft tissue creates or maintains this pattern. Understanding these patterns makes your work more efficient and long lasting in its effects
Through this one-day intensive you can:
• Learn how to develop and practice a simple but effective vocabulary for describing skeletal relationships – tilts, shifts and rotations in the spine, shoulders, pelvis and legs
• Develop coherent single or multi-session strategies based on what you see and feel
• Be able to BodyRead™ postural patterns based on analysis of Anatomy Trains lines
Learning Environment:
1. Illustrated lecture
2. Open inquiry atmosphere; questions encouraged; high degree of vitality and humour
3. Participants will exchange palpation and practice BodyReading (visual assessment) on one another under supervised analysis of instructor (and assistants if required).

Product Description
Attend the RockTape seminar for the chance to learn more about this fast growing method of sports taping used by innovative practitioners and elite athletes.
Unlike traditional rigid tape, which utilises compression and immobilization in treatment, RockTape is elastic and offers a more comfortable alternative for the patient or athlete. RockTape allows the muscle or joint to continue to move through its full range of motion without losing stability or impeding circulation.
RockTape activates the nervous and circulatory systems to initiate healing and is used by the practitioners to assist in the treatment of:
Injured muscles
Biomechanical dysfunction
Postural dysfunction by improving proprioceptive feedback to the area.
RockTape is used by athletes to:
Shorten rehabilitation
Improve endurance
Improve recovery time after intense training sessions or races, as the increased circulation assists in the removal of waste products such as lactic
RockTape has also developed a new protocol for taping called “Power Taping”. By taping the muscles associated with a particular sport, we create a sport-specific bio-kinetic chain.

Fascial Release for Structural Balance (FRSB) is a set of intensive soft-tissue technique courses – based on the new book by James Earls and Tom Myers of the same name – divided into functional regions.
Each course thoroughly conveys 15 – 20 technique ‘templates’, designed for versatile application for the different patterns your clients may bring to you.
Each class includes:
• Relevant anatomy for the area – short, intensive and integrated presentations including brand new images and video of fascial dissections , plus palpation of the relevant structures to convey the information in an inspiring and understandable fashion.
• BodyReading (visual assessment) - the common postural and movement implications – how to see and ‘read’ them in the intricacy of individual patterns
• Fascial Release Techniques – each technique is fully laid out for intent and ‘feel’, with plenty of time for practice, ensuring that you can apply these methods immediately in your practice.
In this class:
The breath is an essential food for life and its passage in and out of the body can be compromised by structural issues in the trunk. The trunk must also act to support the shoulders as well as the neck and head. Its position and relationship with the pelvis can therefore be vital for correct mechanics of the upper limbs and head, neck and jaw issues.
Highlights include:
This course focuses on ribcage and its relationship with the pelvis to provide a secure anchoring point for the neck and shoulders and thoracic spine mechanics, and includes:
1. The anatomy and physiology of the breath, including discussion on various therapeutic views of the ‘normal’ breath
2. Techniques for abdominal fasciae, ribs, vertebral rib joints, and mediastinal visceral tissues, scalenes, and lumbar muscles
3. Techniques for facilitation of the ‘breath wave’ into the front, back, and sides, as well as into each ‘quadrant’ of the rib cage
4. Assessing and addressing the reciprocal relationship between the diaphragm and the pelvic floor
Learning Environment:
• Illustrated lecture
• Open inquiry atmosphere; questions encouraged; high degree of vitality and humour
• Participants will exchange palpation and practice BodyReading (visual assessment) on one another under supervised analysis of instructor (and assistants if required).

Improve recovery time after intense training sessions or races, as the increased circulation assists in the removal of waste products such as lactic acid
RockTape has also developed a new protocol for taping called “Power Taping”. By taping the muscles associated with a particular sport, we create a sport-specific bio-kinetic chain.
Where: Village Way, Fulmer, Brighton, East Sussex, BN1 9BL

LEVEL: Advanced Practitioner
This multi-professional course is accredited by the College of Occupational
Therapists and has been designed with the aim of supporting senior practitioners whose job role involves complex risk assessment and equipment prescription to progress from practitioner to specialist practitioner level.
The 5 day taught programme provides a clinical focus in the specific areas of
Applied Ergonomics, Complex Risk Assessment and the Moving and Handling of People within a community health / social care setting, based on the critical appraisal of
evidence based practice against the background of legislation, professional guidance and case law.
The course will build on the practitioner’s experience and the knowledge gained from foundation moving & handling training, providing the specialist knowledge and toolkit
required to undertake complex risk assessments, devise and implement safer handling practice, including equipment selection, and to act as clinical supervisors.
Achievement at advanced practitioner level (subject to satisfactory completion of the
post-course assignment) will support practitioners with the evidence base and skills to
critically analyse the relevant issues and put in place effective manual handling strategies that take account of person centred risk management.
The programme aims to enable the participant to develop and extend their role, within their workplace setting, in the field of moving and handling people, in the context of
balanced decision-making. The intention is to develop people who will return to their workplace and have a significant impact on Safer Handling practice. They will also be able to provide the expert advice and support for other practitioners in their workplace.

In this 2-Day workshop we explore ways in which our perceptions influence posture and coordination. Drawing from movement principles introduced in her book The New Rules of Posture, and from recent neuroscience, Mary Bond shares practical physical guidance that can transform your somatic practice and your daily life.
In this workshop, we discover that spatial bettors sourced from within the body can operand heal restricted spaces within the body-self. Through movement-meditation, we allow our innate body wisdom to integrate new options for being in the world.
This workshop will explore the topics:
Earth as Mother
Gain a deep appreciation of the support offered by the ground. Experience the sense of embodied presence attained through release of unconscious inhibitions to full acceptance of that support.
Breath as a Whole-Body Response
Normal breathing is a global response that involves the body’s intrinsic layers of myofascia from feet through cranium. Identify specific regions in your body where the response is impeded. Evoke fluidity of breath and body through perception of the independent motions of spinal segments.
Spatial Awareness and Postural Organisation
Current neuroscience regards the space immediately surrounding the body as an integral part of the brain’s management of the body. Use this information to improve core containment, breathing, mobility, balance, coordination and personal presence.
Facial Tension & The Spine
Although effort and focus are keys to peak performance of any physical discipline, they are often linked with unconscious jaw, throat and eye tension. Tensions in the face and perceptual organs diminish mobility of the neck and affect the entire spine. Learn to recognise the compressive effects of effort and focus and practice perceptual cues that dissolve facial tension.

Anatomy Trains offers skills that hands-on therapists, regardless of their modality, can use to see their clients more clearly and work more effectively.
Workshop Format:
The workshop is split into equal time on 1) lecture/presentation, 2) BodyReading™ and postural analysis, and 3) fascial plane and myofascial plane techniques from Tom’s KMI Structural Integration and movement education library.
This course helps you:
• BodyRead your client’s postural and movement patterns with greater accuracy and integration
• Be able to BodyRead™ postural patterns based on analysis of Anatomy Trains lines
• Apply knowledge to construct a bodywork session appropriate for the specific pattern of each client
• This course also serves as a prerequisite for entry in the KMI 500-hour Certification Training.
Learning Environment:
• Illustrated lecture
• Open inquiry atmosphere; questions encouraged; high degree of vitality and humour
• Participants will exchange palpation and practice BodyReading (visual assessment) on one another under supervised analysis of instructor (and assistants if required).
